The Instagram, Whatsapp and Facebook Outage Explained-Cause and Effect Analysis

An outage lasted more than an hour on Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram, among other social media platforms.

Facebook owns all three services, which could not be accessed via the web or smartphone apps.

Downdetector, an outage tracking service, received approximately 80,000 reports for WhatsApp and over 50,000 for Facebook.

According to data from the website, the outage is affecting user accounts all across the world.

Some users have also experienced issues with Facebook's Oculus virtual reality headset platform.

According to Facebook, "We are aware that some users are having difficulty using our apps and products. We're working hard to get everything back to normal as soon as possible, and we apologize for any difficulty this may have caused."

It's possible that it's due to a DNS (domain name system) error for Facebook sites, according to online network experts.

DNS is frequently compared to an online address book or phone book, directing web browsers to the computer system that hosts the website they seek.

Earlier this year, DNS difficulties caused severe outages on several large websites.

In one of those cases, it was discovered that the blackout was triggered by a single customer of a popular service changing their settings, resulting in a software bug that affected a large number of websites.
It's unusual for such issues to afflict a single tech giant, such as Facebook, or for the problem to go unresolved for an extended period of time.

Reddit and Twitter, among other digital companies, have mocked the social media giant's position.
